Professor Tadej Battelino completed his medical degree and a PhD focusing on glucose metabolism in neonatal endotoxic shock at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He completed his clinical fellowship at Loyola University of Chicago, Chicago, USA and his post-doctoral fellowship at INSERM, Paris, France.
He is currently Consultant and Head of Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology, University Medical Centre, Ljubljana, Slovenia; and Head, Chair of Paediatrics, and Professor of Paediatrics at Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. He is a principal investigator on several research projects in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. He was awarded the Slovene national award for research in 2014, Gold Medal for research at the University of Ljubljana in 2017, the ISPAD Achievement Award in 2020, and the Presidential Medal from Children with Diabetes society in 2022. He serves on the editorial boards for the journals Diabetes Care, Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism and Acta Diabetologica, and was Editor for the European Journal of Endocrinology from 2009 to 2015.
He is a member of the American Diabetes Association, European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes, for which he served as President for the 35th Annual Congress.
Professor Thomas Danne
Chief Physician Diabetes Center, Auf der Bult, Hannover, Germany
Professor Thomas Danne is Director of the Department of General Pediatrics and Endocrinology/Diabetology and Clinical Research at the Auf der Bult hospital for children and adolescents, Hannover Medical School, Germany, which is the largest paediatric diabetes centre in Germany. He trained at the Free University Berlin Children’s Hospital in Berlin and was Consultant Paediatrician at the Charité Children’s Hospital of Humboldt University, Berlin. He is a former research fellow of the Joslin Diabetes Center of Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA.
Presently, he is appointed as Chair of the SWEET registry (www.sweet-project.org) and Vice-Chair of INNODIA-iVZW (www.innodia.eu), a consortium to fight type 1 diabetes. He has served as Secretary General and President of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD). Also, he is the past-president of the German Diabetes Association (DDG).
He has been awarded the Helmut Otto Medal of the DDG, the Somogyi Award of the Hungarian Diabetes Association, the ISPAD Prize of Achievement and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Diabetes Federation. His research interests include basic and clinical research in paediatric diabetology, with special emphasis on quality improvement through registers, new insulins, glucose sensors, insulin pumps and automated insulin delivery.

Dr Julia Mader
Medical University of Graz, Graz, Austria
Dr Julia Mader is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetology, Lead of the Diabetes Technology Research Unit and is Deputy Head of the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic at the Medical University of Graz. She received her medical degree at the Medical University of Graz, where she also trained in internal medicine, endocrinology and diabetology. From 2016 to 2017, she was Visiting Professor at the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology, Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism at the University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland.
Her research is focused on diabetes technology, with emphasis on insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring, the artificial pancreas and decision support systems for the treatment of diabetes. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Clinical Diabetes and Healthcare. In 2021, she was awarded the Langerhans Award of the Austrian Diabetes Association. She is a member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, the Austrian Society for Internal Medicine, the Austrian Diabetes Association and the Austrian Society for Endocrinology. She is a management board member of the Austrian Diabetes Society, where she heads the Diabetes Education Committee and is a member of the Diabetes Technology Committee.

Professor Partha Kar
Portsmouth Hospital University NHS Trust, Portsmouth, United Kingdom
Professor Partha Kar is National Specialty Advisor of Diabetes with NHS England, UK. He is also Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Portsmouth, UK and has won multiple awards, as well as being recognised by the Kings Fund and NHS England, UK.
He has helped to expand the use of technology in type 1 diabetes (T1D), namely the use of flash glucose and continuous glucose monitoring in pregnancy and online digital self-management platforms, while recently leading on real-world data collection on closed loops for subsequent NICE review. As a result, NICE updated their guidelines to ensure all people with T1D have access to relevant technology and to champion the Language Matters guidance.
He is one of the leading users of social media in diabetes care, writes a monthly blog for The BMJ, and has been the co-creator of Talking About Diabetes (TED talks from those with T1D), T1D comic (Volume 1 to 3) and virtual reality-based programmes to help education in diabetes.
He received an OBE in 2021 for services to diabetes care. He has also been recognised as one of the most influential figures from the ethnic minority population across healthcare by the HSJ.
